The development of communication and information technology in the  21st century  greatly changes people’s view of learning approaches .In the information age, learning is no longer constrained to the classrooms, and people nowadays are blessed with many more resources they had before. In the 21st century, interest is focused on how to make full use of technology to meet the needs of the learner, how to get knowledge more effectively, and how to utilize technologies in instructional design. We will have an overview of Open Learning Environments and try to find answers to the above-raised questions.

What are Open Learning Environments(OLEs)?

 What are the main features of OLEs?

1. The learner plays an active role in learning ( the centrality of learners) 

2. Understanding  is best achieved when  situated  in authentic context

3. Learning is effective through negotiation and interpretation involving multiple perspectives 

4. Prior or Everyday Experiences are important in learning process

5. Technology scaffolding helps to deepen understanding
